MusicBox3 MP3 Exciter & Equalizer

MusicBox3 now comes with the MP3 Exciter!
You will hear better sound quality than the stock music player.
Bass and Treble controls allow you to compensate for lost frequencies from cheaper ear buds,
as they boost the very low or very high tone bands without causing boominess or harshness.
A semi-parametric EQ with a mid frequency sweep control allows very precise tone correction.

MusicBox, MusicBox2 and MusicBox3 Operating Instructions

Playing Music: Play any band, or Album, you have chosen: Double Tap Box (Genre), Tap Band, Tap Close, then Play (for Albums Double Tap Band). You can add Bands, Albums, or Songs to either Playlist Box with Rearrange (below), and either change to PLAY A/BLIST under SET or simply Tap ALIST or BLIST before you Tap PLAY. Tap a Box then PLAY to Shuffle Songs in that Box. SHUFFLE ALL under SET plays Songs randomly from your entire collection (wait a bit to vary the randomizer before Tapping Play). PLAY BUCKET under SET plays Bands/Albums/Songs that you have added to the Bucket by Tapping them from the Box Page. If you want to change Playlists while Playing Music, from AList to BList or vice versa, just Tap SET - PLAY A/BLIST - OK, and wait for the next Song.

IMPORTANT NOTE: MusicBox and MusicBox2 do not support the parametric EQ or Bass and Treble controls. MusicBox also does not support the A/BLIST or continuous music play (it is a demo program).
The supported file types for all three versions are: mp3, mp4, aac, m4a, m4p, avi, mid, and wav. If your music is not in E:/Music or F:/Music, you must follow the ADD MORE MUSIC procedure below. To explore your music folders go to Menu - Applications - Office - File Mgr.

Rearrange: Bands can be rearranged by first Double Tapping a Box, then on the Box Page Tap one or more Bands, and finally Tap the Box to move them to. The Tapped Bands will be saved in the Bucket until either moved or played. So you can visit several Boxes, Tapping Bands along the way, and finally Tap the destination Box to move them all to, or you can play them all, one after another. Bands, Albums, or Songs can be added to either PLAYLIST by simply Tapping ALIST or BLIST after selecting the Band, Album or Song. Each PLAYLIST will hold 20 Albums/Songs on Page 1, and 20 Albums/Songs on Page 2. If you are exploring your music collection, make sure you Tap CLEAR BUCKET before you return to the main screen. You can DELETE BANDS from MusicBox3 completely by Tapping DELETE BANDS Twice after adding them to the Bucket.

Album Selection: Double Tapping the Band on the Box Page will bring up a list of Albums. If you then Tap an Album and tap OK, it will be played. Select up to 40 Albums.

Song Selection: Double Tapping the Album will bring up a list of Songs. If you then Tap a Song and Tap CLOSE, it will be played. Select up to 40 Songs.

Rename Boxes: You can change the names of the Boxes (Genres). Use the EDITOR in the box you want to change. Double Tap Box then tap OPEN - BOX TITLE: Try to use less than 8 or 9 characters. Tapping the BOX TITLES Button allows you to change all the Boxes at once, and it suggests names for you which will be updated if you Select OK, or ignored if you Select CANCEL.

Loading Music: Your Music will be automatically loaded from Mass Memory (E:/Music) and from the Memory Card (F:/Music). MusicBox3 assumes song files are in sub-folders with the standard folder structure E:/Music/Artist/Album/Song and F:/Music/Artist/Album/Song which is where Windows Media Player (and most music software) puts them. You can divide up your music differently than that but the results may not be desireable. If your Songs are not in a sub-folder (under an Artist Name) or sub-sub-folder (under an Album Name), but instead are directly listed in the Music folder, MusicBox cannot divide them up properly. You must CREATE FOLDER with a name that MusicBox can use for the Band Buttons. Then COPY the songs to that sub-folder.

Scroll: The Blue Buttons scroll the screen left/right (when phone rotated to vertical).

Set: The Orange Triangle is a pointer for the volume slider. Drag and drop the Orange Triangle (or any part of the triangle's horizontal section). Tapping the Fine Volume Buttons - Low,Midlo,Middle,Midhi,High - will change the volume slider to fine adjust mode for very precise adjustments. Play mode can be set to ALIST, BLIST, BUCKET, or SHUFFLE ALL. ALIST or BLIST can be cleared. Save Band Volume allows you to boost soft albums. MusicBox saves the relative volume difference from the last saved volume with the current band playing (great for old albums). Turn On Tube/EQ switches from the Digital Signal Processor with EQ, to the Tube Processor without EQ (enabled on Musicbox3 only). If the OS suffers Buffer Overrun, the current song counter is saved, which automatically switches off the EQ the next time the song counter gets there. You may reset the saved song counter if you think it is prematurely limiting the number of songs that get EQ'd: Double Tap TURN ON EQ. The Buffer Overrun system anomaly may be fixed by Nokia at some point.

EQ: The Triangles are pointers for the Mid Frequency, Mid Level, Bass Level, and Treble Level. Drag and drop a Triangle (or any part of the triangle's horizontal section) to make adjustments to the tone. The Mid Freq (top triangle) will affect about an octave range of tones (think of a portion of a piano keyboard). One possibility is to set it all the way left, and then cut the Mid Level to about -4 dB. This will actually punch up the bass (the Bass Triangle is ultra-low at 50 Hz). Another possibility is to set it all the way right, and then boost the Mid Level to about 4 dB. This will act like a treble presence control (the Treb Triangle is ultra-high at 12K Hz).

Editor: Technophiles can use the following feature (not recommended for casual users):
Selecting OPEN on the Box Page will bring up an Editor so bands can be added or deleted, one at a time, in the current box. All you need to edit is the FOLDER NAME (of the band) and the BAND NAME. Take care to use the exact FOLDER NAME (no abbreviations) for your changes, although the BAND NAME can be abbreviated because it is used only for the display label. The folder format looks like E:/Music/Band, for example, where Band is the Artist Name, (use forward slash delimiters). Note that Albums should be in the Sub-folder of the FOLDER NAME, and Songs should be in the Sub-Sub-folder of the FOLDER NAME. The main folder does not have to be called Music if your music is elsewhere, but the songs must be in a sub-folder or sub-sub-folder.

Memory: When Closing MusicBox3: The last song played will be saved when playing an Album. It does not save songs when playing specific songs unless they are added to AList or BList. PLAY MODE is saved. Tube/EQ DSP is saved. Current Volume is saved.

Add More Music: You can add Bands one at a time with the Editor, but it is faster to Tap OPTIONS - UPDATE - Update E:/Music (or Update F:/Music). For other Folder Names, the Music Box can search any folder of Artists and automatically add them. Tap OPEN from the ALIST or BLIST box (**Must be from the ALIST or BLIST Box**). Add the new Folder Name, for example F:/Music2 (note - use forward slash delimiters), to the UPDATE DIRECTORY line and tap OK and CLOSE, then select OPTIONS - UPDATE - Update Edited.

Swapping Memory Cards: The Artist location data is stored in the file: "E:/Music/musicbox2.txt". If you have music on 2 SD memory cards (ex. A,B), you can set up 2 versions of musicbox2.txt so that the Bands will appear in the Boxes correctly when you swap memory cards. First, rearrange the Bands into Boxes of your liking with Memory Card A. Second, use Nokia's File Manager App to rename musicbox2.txt to something like musicbox2a.txt. Third, swap in Memory Card B. Fourth, startup the MusicBox3 app and rearrange the Bands into Boxes of your liking with Memory Card B. Fifth, when you want to swap back to Card A, use Nokia's File Manager App to rename musicbox2.txt to something like musicbox2b.txt, and rename musicbox2a.txt to musicbox2.txt. Also, to maintain your blacklists, do the same process with musicbox3.txt.
